Out for blood… in a good way! Come to the event and GET SUCKED!
In 1983, FDA issued guidelines that recommended that sexually active gay and bisexual men with multiple partners should not donate blood.
In 1986, the FDA issued federal regulations that banned all gay men from donating blood.
On August 7th 2023, the FDA and American Red Cross changed their guidelines that once restricted the LGBTQIA+ community from donating to now welcoming the community to giving blood in support of their fellow humans.
Since our first blood drive, we have been able to save more than 225 lives so we have partnered again for our third blood drive! On Friday, February 5th, 2027, River City Pride will be partnering with the American Red Cross to host the third LGBTQIA+ Blood Drive. Proving that our community DOES show up and will support our neighbors, our loved ones, and those in need.
